Nora Kincaid has been a thread running through Androscoggin After Dark. Asking her to stay quietly in a supporting role was probably optimistic.
She’s getting a series of her own because, honestly, she’s amazing.
Of the Woods opens The Peri Files on January 26, 2027. This time, the office, the investigation, and the very inconvenient attraction belong to Nora.
A desk of her own
At forty-seven, Nora is a former New Hampshire State Police detective working as a private investigator in Berlin. Her office is above a hardware store. She schedules witness interviews before lunch, when there’s a better chance she’ll keep hold of the noun she needs.
Perimenopause has rearranged her sleep and made a few everyday tasks unnecessarily interesting. She still knows how to read a deed, question a witness, and notice when someone volunteers a detail she hasn’t told them yet. I want her to have room for all of it. The competence, the irritation, the dry humor, and the possibility of wanting something for herself.
Four words to open the file
Before Danny Ouellette vanishes, he texts his sister four words. Don’t trust the survey. When Céleste brings that warning to Nora, it leads to an empty truck off Route 110, a handwritten correction at the county registry, and six acres that have somehow changed sides.
Defense attorney Graham Dubois knows the family involved. He belongs to it. He also knows Nora, and their unfinished history has very poor timing.
Then a brick comes through her office window. Someone knows exactly where Nora is. She still doesn’t know where to find Danny.
Follow her from the river, or start here
If you’ve followed Nora through the River books, I hope walking into her office feels like catching up with someone you’ve wanted to know better.
If you’re meeting her for the first time, Of the Woods is the first case in her own series. You can start here. The River books are there whenever you want to see where our paths first crossed.
